Summary

This edited collection is the product of a National Research Working Group (NRWG) established by Said Adejumobi and supported by the Open Society Initiative for West Africa (OSIWA), an arm of the Soros Foundation. The objective of the project is to analyze the progress made in Nigeria since the return to democratic rule in 1999 and the prospects of democratic consolidation in the country. It focuses mainly on the Obasanjo administration (1999-2007) which carried out fundamental changes/reforms in the nation's political economy.

Author Biography

Said Adejumobi is currently Chief of the Public Administration Section and Coordinator of the African Governance Report (AGR) at the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA), Addis Ababa, Ethiopia and an Associate Professor of Political Science. His books include The African Union and New Strategies for Development in Africa; Breaking Barriers, Creating New Hopes: Democracy, Civil Society and Good Governance in Africa; and The National Question in Nigeria: Comparative Perspectives.
