Mayle Stone, a young fur trapper, lives a Cherokee woman whom he received as "payment" for a debt of a wolf skin. The Cherokee Indian brave, who took the wolf skin and offered Izusa in exchange, tells Stone that she already belongs to him because he saved her from a grizzly bear when she was a child. Stone feels unable to return Izusa to the village, so they stay together with their two wolf pups, Dark Star and Moon. One day, during a visit to Fort St Vrain for supplies, Izusa comes to the attention of an outlaw, Jon Rudyman. He plans to kill the trapper and take the woman. The plan has flaws and Stone survives. Izusa disappears. Stone is out for revenge. Also looking for Rudyman is the Bounty Hunter Rey Heston. It's a race to see who will track down Rudyman first.
