Summary

The Grumman E-2 Hawkeye is still evolving after forty years of continues service. Originally developed as an all-weather carrier-based Aircraft Early Warning plane it replaced the E-1 tracker, and gained the nicknamed Super Fudd. From it's combat debut in the Vietnam War to it's command-and-control role in the Persian Gulf war and beyond the Hawkeye E-2 has proved it's reliable, rugged airframe, and is as effective in law enforcement as it is in Iraq or directing navel and Marine Corps aircraft against targets in Iraq and Afghanistan thanks to it's unique command and control structures capable of tracking 2,000 targets at the same time. A celebration of the Hawkeye - also called the Hammer due to the noise made by it's twin-prop turbo engines - this book features photographs and anecdotes of this redoubtable navel warrior at work and rest. Deployed in Israel, France, Mexico, Taiwan, Egypt, Singapore, Japan, directing fighters in action against Libyan terrorist targets, Iraqi insurgents, and patrolling coastlines in search of drug smugglers. Striking images of the Hawkeye cover four decades, and there is detailed information on design and development, offering a thorough and compelling picture of one of today's most stalwart aircraft. By the same author of the hugely popular Grumman F-14 Tomcat, Bye-Bye Baby, this is sure to be welcomed by legions of enthusiasts.
