Author Biography

Jon Scieszka has been named the first National Ambassador for Children-'s Literature, a position created jointly by the Library of Congress and the Children-'s Book Council to raise national awareness of the importance of young people-'s literature. During his two-year term, he will be an advocate for children-'s books, speaking during Children-'s Book Week, as well as at other book-related venues. He will also continue to promote Guys Read, the nonprofit literacy organization he founded.

Jon grew up in Flint, Michigan. He graduated from Albion College and went on to earn an MFA in creative writing at Columbia University. After a stint as an elementary school teacher, he published his first book, The True Story of the Three Little Pigs, illustrated by Lane Smith. Scieszka and Smith have collaborated on seven other books, including The Stinky Cheese Man, a Caldecott Honor Book, and their most recent title, Cowboy and Octopus. Jon Scieszka is also the author of the Time Warp Trio series, chapter books for middle readers.

Jon Scieszka lives in Brooklyn, New York.
