Summary

Helga Michie fled with one of the last Kindertransports to London in July 1939, where she still lives today. This bilingual monograph marks the first time her largely unknown artistic oeuvre, which gives voice to her own experiences of Nazi oppression and exile, is documented in its entirety. The book includes texts by her friends as well as academic contributors who discuss both Michie’s far-reaching relationships with Austrian expats in London and her early separation from her twin sister whose diverging path opens up complementary perspectives on a common fate.
