Summary

Willard Keaseberry is a 12-year-old boy with a tragic childhood. One day, he finds out that he has been designated as the Keeper of the Golden Chariot, a vehicle that can take him through time and space.

This title of "keeper" is hereditary and has been handed down through the centuries by a higher mystical power. Three of his classmates have also been chosen to assist him to rescue children trapped in all sorts of situations. Along the way they have to contend with adversaries, both mortal and supernatural.

There are three stories in this book.

The first, “A Higher Calling” has some back stories of Willard’s traumatic childhood. On his twelfth birthday, the spirit of his grandfather revealed to him that he has been appointed as Keeper of the Golden Chariot – a hereditary role created by a mystical power which is passed down the generations over the centuries. At the same time, three of his friends from his class, all sharing the same birth date, find out that they, too, have been called to assist Willard in his role as Keeper.

The second story is “Skeletons in the Closet”.  Willard travels to Perth to meet his brother and sister whom he has never met before and tries to piece his broken family back again.

In the last story “Philippine Heist”, Andie, the Filipino tomboy and one of the four protagonists, is kidnapped and put in a plane bound for her hometown on Cebu Island. The other three stowaway on the plane to rescue her from her kidnappers.
