Summary

Rap music is a part of that lengthy family tree that narrates the tradition and evolution of black music in the United States and that has exerted a substantial influence on music, literature, cinema philosophy, television, commerce, publicity, the media, language, fashion, painting or dance in the last four decades. It is the soundtrack of many activist movements and his lyrics continue to have that heartbreaking and combat component that brings him closer to social criticism. In Spain, for example, the legal proceedings against Pablo Hasél and Valtonyc have placed rap in an unprecedented situation, with the lyrics of their songs constituting crimes.

 

Author Biography

Ricky Lavado (Barcelona, 1979)  is a writer who has spent more than half his life on stage, doing the second best thing he knows how to do: playing drums and percussion in different groups, some of which already have an immovable place in the history of independent music from the XXI century, like Standstill, Egon Soda, Mi Capitán, The New Raemon, The Secret Society and Undozurdo. Music is always inevitably present in his texts, even in those that don't talk about music. This is his second book after Endora (Bandaparte, 2018).
