Author Biography

An avid outdoorsman, Jack's life has been one adventure after another. Born in Terre Haute, Indiana, he served during World War II as a combat Marine participating in the battles of Guadalcanal, Bougainville, Guam and Iwo Jima. In later years, his free-lance writing and photography has taken him all over the United States and from the steaming jungles of Central America to the vast reaches of the Arctic. When television was in its infancy, he hosted one of the nation's first outdoor programs. It continued weekly for twenty-one years. He is a member of the Outdoor Writers Association of America, and a past-president of the Association of Great Lakes Outdoor Writers. Many of his articles and photographs have received excellence-in-craft awards, and in 1978, he was named Outdoor Writer of the Year by the Indiana Department of Natural Resources. In 2002, he was inducted into the National Freshwater Fishing Hall of Fame as a "Legendary Communicator".
