Summary

This volume is a collection of selected research papers from the XXIVth Conference of the Danubian Countries (2-4.6.2008, Bled, Slovenia).The topics of the volume will embrace the most diversified domains of the hydrological forecasting and hydrological bases of water management as: informational forecasting systems and hydrological forecast models, meteorological data and statistical methods, examples of extreme flood and drought events, climate change impact on the hydrological cycle, eco-hydrological processes, erosion, sediment transport, water quality issues, water resources management and the latest developments in hydrology.Methodological approaches and case studies from Danubian countries are presented. Water wealth of the Danube region, and water resources management problems and solutions will be discussed by authors from the countries of the Danube region: Hungary, Croatia, Romania, Slovenia, Germany, Austria, Serbia, Czech Republic and others.

Author Biography

Mitja Brilly is Professor of Hydrology and Management of Water Regime at the University of Ljubljana, Slovenia, head of the Chair of Hydrology and Hydraulic Engineering, member of the Faculty of Civil and Geodetic Engineering Senate, head of University Post-graduate Study Programme in Environmental Protection, chairman of the Slovenian National Committee for the International Hydrological Programme (IHP) of UNESCO. He was responsible for organization of several international conferences such as Regionalization in Hydrology 1990, FRIEND 97 and XXIVth Conference of the Danubian Countries 2008. He has conducted more than 70 investigations in hydrology, hydraulic engineering and environment, and has more than 40 publications.
