Megan Morgan is a quiet, introverted high school sophomore resigned to living life primarily through books because of her fear and concern for her alcoholic mother's erratic behavior. Intervention by child welfare places Megan's guardianship temporarily in the hands of her mother's sister, a close aunt who loves Megan but is mentally challenged, and a brother, an uncle with whom Megan has had no prior relationship. Although Jack only intends to be Megan's mentor, he becomes aware not only that Megan is developing a crush on him, but that the girl's developing dynamic personality is attracting him, also. There are both positive and negative results from this potent liaison. Megan's personality and self confidence blossom, however, an illicit relationship develops between Megan and her uncle. For a teen, falling in love is a time honored and expected rite of passage, but not if your first romance happens to be with your uncle. Volume 1 of Illicit Liaisons delves deeply into the gradual development of the romance between uncle and neice and the blossoming of Megan's identity. Similarities exist between "Illicit Liaisons" and the novels "The Torn Skirt", "One Hundred Strokes of the Brush Before Bed", and "She's Come Undone" in the personality forming experiences of the female protagonist. However, in those stories the adults play a minimal or negative role in the life of the protagonist. In "Illicit Liaisons", many of the adults play a positive and influential role. Volume I will stand alone as a portrayal of an unintended but common illicit romance between close family members. It also serves as a seque into Volume 2 where Megan encounters a more challenging and destructive event than her entanglement with her uncle.
