Author Biography

Marcus Aurelius Antoninus (121–180 CE) was a Roman emperor and general who ruled for two decades. He was a Stoic philosopher who wrote Meditations in Greek for his personal instruction, drawing on the work of Epictetus.

James Romm is an author, a reviewer, and the James H. Ottaway Jr. Professor of Classics at Bard College. His reviews and essays appear regularly in the Wall Street Journal and the New York Review of Books.

Joanna Lisoweic is an illustrator known for her bold style of work inspired by the beauty of nature. She graduated from Edinburgh College of Art with a B.A. in illustration, and lives in Yorkshire, England. Her clients include Penguin Random House, Faber & Faber, and Pavilion.
