Summary

The internationalization of the division of labour is dissolving the national solidarity of the workforce, and nationally concentrated production chains are being replaced by transnational chains. In this process solidarity is undergoing a fundamental change. Inclusion and Exclusion in the Liberal Competition Stateaims to understand and explain the transformation of the old welfare state into the new competition state taking place in the context of the globalized economy. Examining three types of welfare regimes within the USA, Germany, Denmark and Sweden, M#xFC;nch assesses these elements against the background data of economic performance, social integration and labour market performance. The study focuses on the ongoing transnational social integration, through European integration and Globalization, and the consequence of national disintegration. This book will be of interest to scholars and students of political science, sociology and social policy studying welfare state change.
