Summary

Steve Garvey, Davey Lopes, Bill Russell, and Ron Cey were all picked in the first round of the 1968 draft by the Los Angeles Dodgers, one of baseball's premier organizations. Together they ultimately formed an infield that set a major-league record by playing together for 8 1/2 years. They were what the 1970's were all about in modish, hip Los Angeles. The Infield tells the story of this era through their eyes, beginning at the end their final game together when the Dodgers defeated the New York Yankees in Game 6 of the 1981 World Series. Alternating chapters then provide the narrative of the players' careers and the Dodgers' development into a championship team, while also catching up with the players today.
