Summary

The catalog » IN.SIGHT – The Donation Schrö der to the Hamburger Kunsthalle« comprehensively publishes the 60 works by over 20 artists that Alexander Schrö der recently donated to the Hamburger Kunsthalle. This donation is considered one of the most extensive in the history of the Galerie der Gegenwart. Alexander Schrö der (*1968) grew up in Hamburg and founded the Gallery NEU in Berlin in 1994. The works in his collection provide an excellent overview of artistic positions from the 1970s to the immediate present, revealing perspectives and specifically questioning existing norms with regard to social spaces, architecture, institutions, gender, identity, sexuality, migration, national statehood, and racism. What is particularly striking is that Alexander Schrö der has focused his attention on contemporary art also beyond the artists represented at NEU and is entirely following his passion for social relevance.
