Author Biography

Frances Dipper, BSc, PhD, is an author, independent marine consultant, underwater photographer, and educational lecturer with diverse experience in marine biological survey work gained in the UK, Middle East, and Far East. Her books include The Oceans (Quarto Children’s Books, 1999) and Extraordinary Fish (BBC Books, 2001) written to tie in with BBC’s Blue Planet series. Frances is the 2003 winner of the Aventis Prize for Science Books in the junior book section for Guide to the Oceans (Dorling Kindersley). In addition she is a qualified diving instructor and expedition leader. Jane Parker has a Zoology degree and has been involved with writing and co-writing many life science books for children. As well as writing, she is involved with teaching science in schools. Her books include Rainforests (Franklin Watts, 1999), Oceans (Franklin Watts, 2003), and The Encyclopedia of Sharks (with Steve Parker) (Firefly Books, 2005).
