Summary

After the September 11 attacks, President George W Bush denounced a world-wide 'axis of evil' and declared that there could be no neutrals in the fight against it. In the Second World War there were states who chose to avoid taking sides in the fight against Hitler and Fascism.

Author Biography

Ian S Wood is a lecturer in Napier University in Edinburgh and the Open University and has written a new study of Winston Churchill. He has worked extensively for the media and covered the conflict in Northern Ireland for the The Scotsman, Scotland on Sunday, the Sunday Times, and the Sunday World in Belfast, as well as BBC radio. This gave him the opportunity for contact with the security forces, politicians and leaders of both Republicanism and Loyalist organisation.
