Summary

J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter books are read and loved around the world. Rowling enjoyed reading and telling stories when she was a child, and her dream, even then, was to be a published author. The idea for Harry came to her not long after she graduated from college. But before Harry could become a book, Rowling's life took many turns. She worked for Amnesty International, then moved to Portugal and taught English. In Portugal she married and had a baby. Not long after that she was back in Great Britain, a single mother on welfare. Through it all, Harry, his friends, and their adventures at Hogwart's School of Witchcraft and Wizardy developed in bits and pieces, until Rowling had the seven novels outlined and had worked out the final words. Since the publication of the first book about Harry Potter, readers around the world wait anxiously for each new book and the films made of them, and greet each release with wild enthusiasm. All are eager to enter and reenter Harry Potter's magical world. J. K. Rowling's dream of becoming a published author has certainly come true. Book jacket.
