Summary

"Countries write their history very legibly in the things they build and the way they treat the face of the earth, and the Japanese have done it as clearly as any. The character of the land with its abundance of timber and the natural taste of the inhabitants for this medium have combined to present us with the most advanced wooden architecture in the world."
