Author Biography

Grace Chang was born in Beijing, China, into a family of famous entetainers. As a little girl she often sat with her father while he wrote, and she dreamed of becoming a writer herself one day. When she wasn’t dreaming, she learned magic tricks from her grandfather in the courtyards of the Forbidden City. Some years later, Grace was seleced for the job of star illusionist and ringmaster in an internationally acclaimed Chinese circus. She has appeared on stage and screen in both China and the United States, including the film, The Joy Luck Club. Grace also has spent many years helping families to adopt babies from China. She lives in Brooklyn with her husband and son.

Chong Chang, Grace’s brother, has been drawing since the age of five. He graduated from Tiansen Art School and lives in China, where he works in graphic design. Because of the time difference between Brooklyn and China, Grace and Chong frequently excange ideas in the middle of the night.
