Summary

In this delightful story, the king refuses to leave his bathtub and rule the kingdom. Beauty aside, this also has a panache and sly wit that will please children and their parents, who will be called on to peruse the book again and again.--Booklist

Author Biography

Audrey Wood is a fourth generation artist. Born and raised in Little Rock, Arkansas, she studied drama and art at the Arkansas Art Center there. She has owned and operated a book and import store, taught children's drama and art, and traveled throughout Mexico and Guatemala studying Indian folk art. She now devotes her time to writing and illustrating children's books and sculpting life-size papier-mache figures. Don Wood is an illustrator whose work has appeared in both magazines and picture books. He has also done painting for Shelley Duvall's Faerie Tale Theatre. He received his B.A. from the University of California at Santa Barbara and his M.F.A. from the California College of Arts and Crafts. Audrey and Don Wood have collaborated on numerous books for children. Their previous book for Harcourt Brace, The Napping House, was named a 1984 New York Times Best Illustrated Children's Book, an American Library Association Notable Children's Book, and it received the 1984 Golden Kite Award for Illustration from the Society of Children's Book Writers. The Napping House was also chosen as a National Council of Teachers of English Teacher's Choice and an International Reading Association Children's Choice. The author and illustrator are married and live in Santa Barbara, California, together with their son, Bruce Robert Wood, who bears a remarkable resemblance to the Page in King Bidgood's in the Bathtub.
