Summary

With a tone and a subject matter that put scientific principles within the reach of the layperson, this exploration examines the powers of comic book superheroes, and a few super villains, from a physics standpoint. From heroes who were born with incredible powers--including the likes of Superman and Thor--and those who came by their gifts artificially, such as Spiderman and Captain America, to others with no superhuman abilities at all--not least among them Batman and Ironman--this engaging discussion casts a critical eye upon a range of comic book characters by drawing a line between the scientifically plausible and the flights of literary fancy. Comic book and graphic novel fans and popular science aficionados will be drawn to this entertaining and compelling analysis.
