Fue uno de los principales cronistas de la conquista espanola de America;enseno lenguas clasicas en la Universidad de Alcala y despues se hizo sacerdote y fue secretario y capellan de Hernan Cortes. Aunque Francisco Lopez de Gomara nunca fue a America, la historia de la conquista le fue contada por el propio Cortes y otros expedicionarios.
