With extraordinary amusement, the author reveals some phenomena such as why impatience can be catastrophic for our children and how we can help them have more self-control, as well as why in some countries there are more scammers and liars than in others, or why all the industrial revolutions end up creating more jobs than they destroy. In his analysis, Sala i Martín has incorporated concepts from other disciplines, such as psychology, evolutionary biology or anthropology, into the economy, which help to understand how human beings behave and why they make some decisions that, at first glance, are incomprehensible. And, analyzing the data provided by history, we discover that the economic system we have has allowed us to progress like never before and that, instead of destroying it, what we must do is make the greatest possible effort so that it reaches those corners of the planet where it still has not arrived.
