Summary

A miniature encyclopedia of mythical persons, A Little Book of Magical Beings is a must for the reader of any age who seeks out the strange characters that have magically interfered and helped human kind throughout time. Within this small tome is a light compilation of some of the most unusual creatures from the world's famous legends and myths. There are 26 beings such as the more familiar European fare like the fairy and troll, but there also more exotic individuals like the kitsume, fox demon of Japan, or the Xin Tian, a giant of Chinese legend. Each page contains a different being rendered beautifully in detailed watercolor and pen. All are described in light verse with factual information to both enlighten and delight. The book is the creation of Llyn Hunter an Emmy award winning storyboard artist, and Illustrator for the collectable card games Warlord as well as Legend of the Five Rings. She has also written and illustrated several books for Dover Publications including Strange Creatures of the Sea and Sharks of the World. Llyn is a rabid fan of mythology and a classical monster lover who has brought her appreciation of these creations to life with a mixture of influences from comic books, animation, and the Art Nouveau illustration masters.

Author Biography

Llyn Hunter is an artist and writer with a variety of styles created from a varied past. She survived her early years in Mesa, Arizona, living on a diet of science fiction, comic books, spring board diving, and gymnastics. At age 19 Llyn escaped the suburban desert, for the land of Oz, also known as the city of Los Angeles, California. There she wallowed in the delights of the multi cultural movie madness with the varied professions of graphic artist for the Los Angeles Zoo, art director for a small educational publishing firm, children's illustrator, and finally at age 30 she entered the world of TV animation as a story board artist. For the past many years Llyn has worked for just about every large animation studio, and also illustrates for fantasy roll playing and collectable card games. She currently resides on a hilly four acres covered with oak trees in the quaint city of Atascadero (Mud Hole/Quagmire) California with her marvelous husband Troy, and her merry band of pets.
