Author Biography


A historical lexicographer, having previously worked on the 4th edition of the Shorter Oxford English Dictionary, Elizabeth Knowles has had a long association with Oxford Quotations Dictionaries. As well as the 7th edition of the Oxford Dictionary of Quotations (2009), her editorial credits include the Oxford Dictionary of Phrase and Fable (2nd edition, 2005), the Oxford Dictionary of Modern Quotations (3rd edition, 2007), and What They Didn't Say: A Book of Misquotations (2006).


Susan Ratcliffe is an Associate Editor for Oxford Quotations Dictionaries, and over the last twenty years has edited several titles including the Oxford Dictionary of Phrase, Saying and Quotation (3rd edition, 2006), the Concise Oxford Dictionary of Quotations (5th edition, 2006), and Oxford Dictionary of Quotations by Subject (2nd edition, 2010).
