Summary

Many of us have dreams of a simple rural life, and in this book Apps brings color and detail to those dreams - the story of growing up on a dairy farm in the 1940's and making his year our own. Telling a tale for each month of the year in the heart of the country, Apps takes us into a time and world now vanished for good: skating on frozen ponds on a moonlit night: driving the farmworkesr's Model T at the age of 10; learning to ride bareback; recovering form polio by driving a tractor; overcoming stage fright at the annual Christmas program; letting of fireworks...Wearing hard-earned wisdom lightly, Apps is a delightful, warm-hearted companion, witty and profound in turns, as he takes us through a long-gone country year.
