Summary

The editors of Art History have brought together a collection of six essays by art historians, anthropologists and commentators on contemporary visual culture on the theme of ls"Locationrs". Issues explored included transatlantic exchanges and global connections, the nature of hospitality that arises in acknowledging migration and diaspora, cultural diversity, and the location of producing, writing and curating. The session was open to the wide range of artrs"s contested histories that had developed in the recent past. They have now opened that debate to a far wider range of examples and concerns. By focusing more specifically on the word ls"locationrs", contributors consider such topics as site-specificity, examinations of the trans-national / trans-cultural, how images / visual forms migrate and the repositioning of ownership.
