Summary

Mayor Canterbury's three year old daughter is among the little girls in the small southern town of Vienna who have suddenly vanished without a trace. The only hint of their whereabouts is the mayor's son impossible notion that one of two very old ladies, appearing seemingly out of nowhere, is his baby sister. But the young lad is afraid to tell anybody about his incredible theory. Out of desperation, he solicits the help of renowned freethinker, Carlton Wyatt, whose open-mindedness leads him to a truth that is as ungodly as it is unbelievable. Before long, a famous actress, looking dramatically younger, announces that she has conceived at age 75, thanks to a miraculous new cosmetic treatment. The announcement rocks the scientific community and spawns a maniacal lust in virtually every human being on earth over age 40. It also catapults the megalomaniacal owner of the cosmetic company to an unprecedented plateau of wealth and power. Dr. Wyatt mortgages his fame to denounce the insanely popular technology, knowing it to be a Trojan horse, independent of the immediate evil it secretly sponsors. But even he is unaware of powerful, yet unseen forces whose objectives are even more unsavory than those of his first discovery. The good doctor, sounding like Chicken Little, puts his life on the line and hurls himself against the maddening popularity of the technology, realizing that its continued consumption may have apocalyptic consequences. But the agnostic professor is aided by his unlikely best friend, a Baptist preacher who is very popular owing to a radical but surprisingly charismatic interpretation of Christianity. Also in his corner is the good natured sheriff of Dooly County and two very ordinary outdoorsmen.
