Summary

Infrastructure development and maintenance is vital for a country's economy but the delivery of projects is becoming ever more challenging because of the economic and legislative environment. This book provides a comprehensive overview of the management of infrastructure projects, from project appraisal to supply chain to implementing practices. The authors incorporate contemporary approaches to project management and provide more linkage between techniques, risk, agile approaches and integrated supply chains, making this a comprehensive reference for students on infrastructure focussed project management modules at undergraduate and postgraduate level.

Author Biography

Edward Ochieng PhD, PGCertHELT, MSc, BSc (Hons), FHEA is a Senior Lecturer in project management. Edward has a PhD from Loughborough University. Edward's research is focused on construction project management. He has extensive research experience relating to people and organisational challenges and solution development for managing large capital and heavy engineering projects. He has presented at national and international conferences, such as Association of Researchers in Construction Management (ARCOM), Australian Universities Building Educators Association (AUBEA), CIB World Congress, American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE) and International World of Construction Project Management where he shared his knowledge on 'Project Complexity', Performance, Capital Effectiveness, Operational Effectiveness and Team Integration'. Edward has published one book and over 55 refereed papers. He has 4 PhD completions, and is currently supervising 3 PhD students on project related topics (Knowledge Management, Strategic Project Management and Agile Lean). Edward has examined 6 PhD students: Loughborough University (3), Salford University (3).

Andrew Price DSc, PhD, BSc (Civil Eng), FCIOB, FICE, CEng is a Professor of Project Management with over 30 years design, construction and industry-focused research experience including several large collaborative research projects and centres. He has graduated 50 plus PhD/ EngDoc students from 25 countries and acted as an External Examiner at four overseas Universities. Andrew has published 6 books and over 300 papers in refereed journals and conferences. He has been a principal or co-investigator on 24 completed research projects. He was a Co-investigator on SUEMoT Consortia (1.6M) and Loughborough IMCRC. Andrew is currently Co-Director of the EPSRC funded (13M over 7 years) HaCIRIC. He has been a member of 11 DETR/DoE/DTI/CIRIA Steering Groups and 9 European Construction Institute Steering Groups and Task Forces dealing with major project performance in the heavy engineering sector.

David Moore PhD, BSc, MCIOB is a reader in project management at Robert Gordon University, Aberdeen. David has been involved in funded research examining the behaviours of superior-performing project managers, and which was rated as tending to international significance by ESPRC. His research activity covers areas ranging from buildability, through sustainable design and the use of solar technologies, to perception and cognition in a construction industry context. David has authored, co-authored and contributed to five books and over 80 papers. His published work reflects his research interests, including sustainable development (in terms of encouraging design acceptance of indigenous materials and methods), use of solar technologies for material production and wealth generation, low carbon construction skills generally, factors in the visual perception of information embedded in complex charts, culture and conflict in design and build teams, and project management competences and performance level.
