Summary

While wide awake in the middle of the night (welcome to menopause!), Amy Ferris began chronicling every one of her funny, sad, hysterical, down and dirty, and raw to the bones stories. Along with fantasizing about marrying George Clooney, Ferris is faced with a plethora of other insomnia-induced thoughts and activities, from googling old boyfriends to researching obscure and fatal diseases on the web, from scouting five-star spa destinations to having angry, bitter, e-mail exchanges with her brother. She worries endlessly about her husband, relies heavily on Ambien, and tries to arrange care via the Internet for her mother (who has both severe dementia and a massive love-bubble crush on Jesus Christ) all while refraining from lighting up just one more cigarette. Marrying George Clooneyexplores a range of emotions experienced through this life-altering period. In this candid look at "the change," Ferris offers a humorous spin on a not-so-funny topic.

Author Biography

When not suffering from a midlife crisis, Amy Ferris is a successful author, screen and television writer, and editor. Her work includes a greater goode (Houghton Mifflin 2002), a contribution in The Buddha Next Door (Middleway Press 2007), and writing credits on the movies Mr. Wonderful (1993) and Funny Valentines (1999), among others. Ferris co-created and co-edited the first (now annual) all-women's issue of Living Buddhism Magazine, and has also written and edited for Milford Magazine and Urban Refugee Magazine.

Ferris serves on the Board of Directors at Peters Valley Arts Education Center, on the Advisory Board of The Women’s Media Center (founded by Gloria Steinem, Jane Fonda and Robin Morgan), on the Executive Committee of The Black Bear Film Festival, and is co-chair of Safe Haven, Inc.—an organization that creates domestic peace for women, children, and men. She is also an active member of NYWIFT (New York Women in Film and Television).

Amy and her husband Ken divide their time between New York City, NY and Dingmans Ferry, PA.
