Summary

This 2009 copyrighted story opens with a pedestrian murder of a man who is a DNA scientist. The case is assigned to a female detective, Martha Dolan, who uncovers the reasons for the murder, which occurred at the hands of a professional assassin. The victim and his partner had cloned the greatest race horses of all time, such as Seabiscuit, Man-o-War, War Admiral, Seattle Slew, Secretariat, and others, using bone marrow DNA. In eighteen months the greatest Kentucky Derby will be run, worth billions of dollars worldwide. The victim was killed to silence him and the building burned, as was the man's home, to destroy any electronic media he may have had to prove his claim that the horses were cloned. Marty took photos of the colts, which are identical to the parent donors, and is deciding whether or not to let the race continue as she tells her story to a female reporter and novelist in a remote location.
