Kathleen S. Osborn, RN, MS, EdD

Dr. Kathleen Osborn was first introduced to the profession of nursing at St. Francis School of Nursing in San Francisco, where she received her diploma. She went on to obtain a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Sacramento State University, a Master of Science degree from the University of California, San Francisco, and a doctorate in educational leadership from the University of Southern California. 

Her clinical practice is in critical care, including cardiac, burn, neurological, and respiratory specialties. She has more than 29 years of experience teaching bachelor and master’s degree students, as well as teaching nurses in hospital in-service and continuing education programs. Dr. Osborn’s expertise includes program and course development, didactic lecturing, and clinical supervision of undergraduate and graduate students. She also has been actively involved in nursing research and publication throughout her clinical and teaching career.

Since 1999, Dr. Osborn has participated as a nurse educator on humanitarian surgical missions to Laos, Africa, Vietnam, Honduras, Bangladesh, and Ecuador. She received the “Heroes in Healthcare” Community Service Award for her humanitarian work from the Coalition for Excellence in Healthcare, a division of the Health Communication Research Institute of Northern California. She also received the Community Service Award from Sacramento State University for her humanitarian work and her service to student development. In 1995, a perpetual faculty award was begun in her honor by the graduating class: The Guiding Light Award for Outstanding Performance by a Nursing Faculty.

 

Cheryl E. Wraa, RN, MS

Cheryl Wraa received her nursing diploma from the Kaiser Foundation School of Nursing in Oakland, California. She went on to obtain a bachelor’s degree, and Master of Science degree in nursing from California State University, Sacramento. Her clinical career has focused on critical care nursing, leadership, and education.

Ms. Wraa’s clinical practice includes the medical intensive care unit, emergency department, and flight nursing. She is currently the trauma program manager at a level 1 trauma center and clinical faculty for advanced medical—surgical nursing students in a baccalaureate program. Ms. Wraa is also an educator for Interplast and has participated on surgical missions to Vietnam, Bangladesh, and Ghana. She has been active in education and publication throughout her career and is currently a senior clinical editor for the Journal of Emergency Nursing. She is past president of the Air and Surface Transport Nurses Association, and president-elect of the Trauma Managers Association of California. Ms. Wraa received the Barbara A. Hess Award for her contributions to education in the air medical and ground transport field.

 

Annita Watson, RN, MS, DNSc

Dr. Annita Watson began her nursing career in Jamestown, New York, at WCA Hospital School of Nursing. She completed her bachelor’s degree at Teachers College, Columbia University, and her master’s and doctorate in nursing at the University of California, San Francisco. Her graduate focus was medical–surgical nursing and leadership and administration in the service and educational settings. 

Dr. Watson began her teaching career in 1970 at California State University, Sacramento, where she currently teaches at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Her areas of practice include medical–surgical nursing, intensive care, longterm care, and community health. Throughout her career, she has served as a national consultant to health care agencies and educational programs on topics related to development of management systems, quality improvement of patient care, curriculum development and evaluation, and implementation of accreditation processes. She has published in like areas, and made numerous professional preparations. Research interests focus on measurement of patient and student outcomes.

Currently Dr.Watson assumes a leadership role on several local and regional community boards, focusing on health services for vulnerable populations, for example, children, the elderly, and people who have been abused. Nationally, she serves as an accreditation site evaluator for the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education. In 2008, she was awarded the Life Time Achievement Award for community service by California State University, Sacramento, recognizing her contributions to the health of the community and her ability to foster community-based learning experiences for students.
