In 1956, on an extended trip through Mexico, famed photographer Eliot Porter and his photographer friend Ellen Auerbach visited several hundred churches and chapels. Hundreds of years old, the churches were often far from main roads and only very rarely photographed. Author Biography

Eliot Porter (1901-1990) was one of America's greatest photographers. His more than 20 books include The Place No One Knew and The Tree Where Man Was Born .

Ellen Auerbach has had her photograph exhibited worldwide.
