Summary

Modern Digital and Analog Communication, Sixth Edition connects fundamental concepts of communication theory with cutting-edge advancements, linking students' everyday experiences with communication technologies.

This new edition reflects the evolving focus of electrical and computer engineering, addressing the rapid advancements in telecommunications - such as the transition to 5G, WiFi-7 (IEEE 802.11be), and the growing emphasis on digital communication systems. To align with these developments, this sixth edition introduces software-based experiments using Python and Jupyter Notebook, replacing MatLab.

With clear, practical examples that connect theory to real-world applications that students experience daily, such as smartphones, Wi-Fi, and streaming, this edition delivers the tools needed to prepare today's students for the rapidly changing field of communication systems.

Author Biography

B.P. Lathi is Professor Emeritus at California State University, Sacramento. An authorial
impresario, he is the author of Signal Processing and Linear Systems, Linear Systems and
Signals, Modern Digital and Analog Communication Systems, and Digital Signal Processing.
Dr. Lathi is renowned for his excellent writing and each of his books has found significant
uptake in the crowded signal processing textbook market.

Zhi Ding is the Child Family Endowed Professor of Engineering and Entrepreneurship at
University of California, Davis. His research contributions cover a broad range of signal
processing and communication problems, including wireless transceiver optimization, blind
channel estimation and equalization, multi-input-multi-output communications, multiuser
detection, source separation, adaptive signal processing, parameter estimation, radar target
discrimination, multimedia wireless communications, and cross-layer wireless communications.
He has published over 200 refereed papers and book chapters. He received the IEEE
Outstanding Instructor of the Year Award in 2002 for contributions to electrical engineering
education from the IEEE student section in University of California, Davis. Dr. Ding is also the
recipient of the COMSOC Education Award.
