Summary

This full-color guide includes vibrant photos and detailed maps to help with trip planning.

Travel writer and Morocco resident Lucas Peters illuminates the majesty of Morocco, from the ancient streets of Fez to the nightclubs of Casablanca and beyond. Peters shares advice for climbing the winding hill into the crumbling kasbah of Tangier and wandering through the centuries-old cave dwellings in the Middle Atlas, and includes unique trip strategies for travelers of all types, such as “The Best of Morocco,” “Adrenaline Rush,” and “Eco Tour.” Complete with suggestions for a night out on the Jemaa El-Fnaa, the carnival heart of Marrakech, and rock climbing in the North Draa Valley of the Southern Oases, Moon Morocco gives travelers the tools they need to create a more personal and memorable experience.

Author Biography

After having spent the better part of ten years living in different parts of Europe and the U.S., Lucas M. Peters thought it was time for a change. In 2009, he took a job in Morocco teaching Literature and Composition at a college in a small town atop the Middle Atlas Mountains outside of Fez. When his plane landed he found that all of his luggage was lost. Two weeks later his luggage was returned, though by this time Lucas had already had to shop at the local markets for food, clothing and other basic necessities without speaking a word of the local dialect. It was a sort of sboue, the Islamic equivalent of a baptism.

Over the next few years he explored Morocco, from the date groves of the Sahara to the fishing villages along the Atlantic Coast. He’s dined at Rick’s Café in Casablanca, caught a ride on the “Marrakech Express,” gotten lost in the labyrinthian maze of the Fez medina and followed “The Beats” in Tangier. Along the way, he picked up some of the language, made a few friends and married his wife, a Tanjaioua from Tangier.

With his wife, Lucas continues to explore the small towns dotting the national roads, the difficult-to-access mountain villages and tucked away beaches. Occasionally, he splurges on a well-deserved weekend in a five-star riad, complete with an elaborate Moroccan hammam treatment, which his wife is usually grateful for.
