Author Biography

Native Californian Sylvie Hogg (Lead writer, The Basics, Rome & Lazio, Florence & Tuscany, Umbria, Bologna/Emilia-Romagna, Venice & the Veneto, Naples & Campania, Sicily chapters) moved to Rome after graduating from Dartmouth and spent five fabulous years working as a tour guide and travel writer. She now lives in New York City and writes about Italy for several publications in the US and UK. She loves rock n’ roll, and is always planning her next trip. She is the author of Frommer’s Irreverent Guide to Rome and Frommer’s Rome Day by Day.

Brad Archer (The Basics) lives in New York City, where he currently does International Marketing for MTV and can be found singing with the Juilliard Choral Union, daydreaming by the Hudson, or out on the live music circuit.

South African-Canadian Taryn Firkser (Venice & the Veneto, Liguria & the Italian Rivera, Naples & Campania chapters) has a Bachelor’s degree in Geography and a Master’s degree in Tibetan Studies and hopes to one day make a career of traveling the world.

Budget-airline jetsetter Anne Laurella (Bologna & Emilia-Romagna, Sicily chapters) divides her time between her native Stockholm, Sweden, and Rome. She can be spotted lounging on the beach in Sicily or eating prosciutto with her partner-in-crime, Sylvie. Anne recently launched her own editorial company.

Andre Legaspi (Florence & Tuscany, Umbria, Bologna & Emilia-Romagna chapters) was born and raised in Queens, New York and attended McGill University in Montreal, where he wrote CD reviews and covered the music scene.

John Moretti (Florence & Tuscany, Venice & the Veneto, Milan & the Lakes chapters), has written for The International Herald Tribune, The Independent on Sunday, Italy Daily, New York Sun, The Associated Press, and FT Online. He’s also the author of Frommer’s Florence, Tuscany & Umbria.
