Summary

Since the 1990's, there has been a growing interest in a global historical perspective on modernity. The first volume of the research project Museum global critically analyzes the centering of modernism on the Western canon and delves into various micro-histories of modern art production in Latin America, Africa, and Asia. The second volume features scholarly essays that explore, among other things, questions regarding the educational mission of museums today.

Author Biography

Kathrin Beßen is the curator for modern and contemporary art for Kunstsammlung NRW. Susanne Gaensheimer is the director of the Kunstsammlung NRW, as well as a German art historian and curator. Doris Krystof is the curator for Contemporary Art, Video/Film/Media for Kunstsammlung NRW. Isabelle Malz is the curator for modern and contemporary art for Kunstsammlung NRW. Maria Müller-Schareck is the curator for modern and contemporary art for Kunstsammlung NRW.
