Author Biography

Sharon Dennis Wyeth is the author of Once on This River, named one of the 100 Titles for Reading and Sharing of 1998 by the New York Public Library; Always My Dad, a "Reading Rainbow Book"; and Something Beautiful, a Children's Book Council Notable Book in the field of Social Studies. She graduated from Harvard University. "I recently learned the name of one of my ancestors, a free person of color. I wish I knew the story of how he got his freedom. I found it easy to slip into Corey's world. Part of that is because I've read so much history. But it's also because I feel close to my slave ancestors. Even though I don't know most of their names, I love them and admire them for their bravery. I also like nature. That's why I had Corey like birds. It gave me a chance to go birdwatching and to listen to birdsongs." Sharon Dennis Wyeth lives with her family in Upper Montclair, New Jersey.
