Summary

As a young child, my poetry was first confined to notes and etchings on scrap paper, composition books, and in diaries with keys. In elementary school, with the support of my teachers, I published my first poetry works and won numerous accolades and national recognition for my work.

However, it was not until sophomore year, as the conflicts of the modern world weighed more heavily on me, that I decided to find solace in writing again. I began a project to construct a poetry book, entitled "My Metamorphosis: In, Through, and Forward".

I selected this title with the notion that everyone goes through different stages in their lives-- periods of discovery, relish and relaxation, and immeasurable loss and grief. In these stages lie the stories that shape us. In my book, I tell these stories and reflect on them. I study their implications and how they relate to the general context of our modern world.

More specifically, the intended audience of my poetry book is today's youth. An important part of drafting my own book has been to acknowledge the uniqueness of the youthful human experience. Written in a diary-esk fashion, my poetry aims to share experiences and thoughts with which other young people can identify. The content divulges the world of adolescence and its inherent struggles. It describes, love, loss, and isolation, which are poignant emotions that young individuals face during this crucial time in our lives.

The true intellectual reward, at the root of my poetry book, is the realization of the power of words to evoke memories and emotions in diverse groups of people. The ability of my readers
to picture themselves or their lives in the poems, allows me to rest confident that I am achieving my goal of giving others a voice.
