Summary

This 3-in-1 series was created to give voice to a range of poets who had yet to publish a book and had generally gone about their writing in private. It has published poets who were very much in the game but not in the network. The idea is indebted to Poets of Today, the Scribner series edited by John Hall Wheelock from 1954 to 1962, which published in eight volumes first books by twenty-four poets, three poets at a time under a single cover. The poets in this volume¿Valentine Freeman, Robert Peake and Jensea Storie¿like those in the first four volumes, deserve to be better known, but public promotion of the poets was never the primary aim. That would be a bonus, but only a bonus. Rather, this was a chance to put together a short book for print that would reconfirm for each poet the personal, even intimate, value of the imagination in general and of poetry in particular. Their own imaginations, and their own poetry.
