Author Biography

Lisa Lucas Nicely is an award-winning journalist
who has reported on a wide range of topics in
Ohio for decades. Recognized as the best reporter
in Ohio by the Ohio Society of Professional
Journalists, she has also been honored with several
Associated Press and Society of Professional
Journalism Awards, including those for social issues,
investigative, and political reporting. A graduate of
Kent State University's School of Journalism and
Mass Communications, Lucas Nicely's fascination
with space began in her youth. She enjoyed science fiction books, TV shows like
Star Trek, and movies such as Star Wars. Her interest led her to attend Space Camp
in Huntsville, Ala., where she trained as a mission specialist in orbit simulations. In
1992, during the Ohio 4-H Congress, she had the unique opportunity to meet
Senator John Glenn and ask him one, single question: "What's it like for you to look
yourself up in the encyclopedia?" Surprisingly, he admitted he had never done so,
leaving her amused and him at a loss for words.
Currently, Lisa Nicely works as a freelance writer for several different entities and
publications. She resides in Defiance, Ohio.

Born in Hicksville, Ohio, in 1955, Bill Hinsch has
been a professional artist, illustrator, and
painter for over five decades. His artistic career
took a significant turn in the 1980s when he served
as the art director for the Toledo Blade newspaper.
In 1992, Bill co-founded Root Learning with
Randy Root, contributing as a partner until 2006.
He then embarked on a new venture, founding
Learning Visuals in 2007, creating Learning Maps
and eLearning programs for major companies
globally.
Bill's most distinguished work includes a major commission for the Columbus Ohio
Statehouse, a 12 ft x 9 ft oil painting featuring the 'Mount Rushmore' of USA
astronauts, John Glenn, Neil Armstrong, Jim Lovell, Judy Resnick, and mission
controller Gene Kranz. Additionally, he collaborated with legendary aviation artist
Harley Copic on an 8 ft painting of Ohio Aviators, showcased in the Wright
Patterson National Air Force Museum in Dayton, Ohio, for the centennial
celebration of flight in 2003. This event was notable for the attendance of John
Glenn and Neil Armstrong, with Glenn signing limited edition prints of the painting,
of which Bill is proud to have two personalized copies signed by the great astronaut
who was the first American to orbit the earth.
Living in Perrysburg, Ohio, for two decades with his wife Carol and their three
children, Alex, Nick, and Emily, Bill continues his artistic endeavors from his local
studio, where the Ohio Astronauts were brought to life. His work stands as a tribute
to his enduring passion for art and Ohio's significant contributions to aviation and
space exploration.
