Summary

Difficult. Picky. Oversensitive. Clumsy. Unpredictable. Inattentive. Children who have been labeled with words such as these may actually be suffering from the often misdiagnosed Sensory Integration Disorder. This break-through guide, written by an expert in the field, explains how SI Dysfunction can be confused with ADD, learning disabilities, and other problems. The author helps parents recognize the problem and offers a drug-free treatment approach.

Author Biography

Carol Stock Kranowitz, a music, movement and drama teacher for twenty-five years, has developed a purposeful program that integrates sensory-motor activities into the young child's day, at home and at school. In her presentations and writings, she shows parents, caregivers, educators, and other early childhood professionals what healthy sensory integration means for the whole child, how Dyfunction in Sensory Integration (DSI) gets in a child's way, and how we can help. Carol received a B.A. in English from Barnard College in 1967 and an M.A. in education and human development from The George Washington University in 1995. She lives in Bethesda, Maryland. She has two married sons and a beautiful granddaughter.
