Summary

This third edition of the Oxford Textbook of Psychiatry has been revisedextensively to take account of new knowledge and advances in practice reportedsince the publication of the second edition. It has been revised and reorganizedto incorporate the latest revisions of the International Classification ofDiseases (ICD10) and of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual for MentalDisorders (DSMIV). The most significantly altered sections of the book areChapter 6, which is now concerned with stress-related and adjustment disorders,Chapter 17, on drugs and other physical treatments, Chapter 18, on psychologicaltreatments, and Chapter 19, in which the account of psychiatric services hasbeen revised extensively. Elsewhere , necessary changes have been made to bringthe book up to date while preserving the original clinical descriptions.
