Summary

Pale as the Moon unfolds in the sixteenth century on an island off the North Carolina coast. Gray Squirrel, a young Indian girl, befriends a wild Outer Banks pony. Together they explore the island where her family lives during the bountiful spring and summer months. During one trip, Gray Squirrel witnesses the arrival of the English colonists who settle on Roanoke Island. Over the summer the relationship between the Indian tribes and the from breaking out, and to help the colonists to survive.
