Based on a true story, a grandfather with terminal cancer reflects on life lessons as he rides around in his scooter, dressed in military (Army) attire to honor his grandson. In the book he is spending time with his great grandson and reminding him how bravery and courage are two of his greatest assets. He lets reader's know that "it's okay" to feel sad at times. Through illustrations and lyrics that rhyme, he leaves a legacy of love for his family and others. In the face of his illness, he is determined to find a way to allow others to honor him through his life lessons. He decides to share his Papa stories as way for his great-grandchildren to remember him as they grow. An honest and relatable depiction of life, Papa's Scooter, a legacy of love celebrates life and the ways in which love lives on. This book gives cancer patients and families hope reminds us that each day brings new healing. The grandfather even references his place of birth "Puerto Rico" although he resides in the United States. The book was written by the daughter of the main character in his honor. She is a Doctorate student at Barry University, the Florida Delegate of the National Veteran Chamber of Commerce, an ArmyMom, as well as an Ambassador for Blue Star Families. This book can be helpful for families that have a grandparent diagnosed with cancer, hospitals to keep in their lobby, libraries (virtual and on-site), schools and military families as way to promote bonding through reading. The book is easy to read as the rhyming lyrics allow listeners to smile.
