Excerpts

Jumping back I fell to the floor. My pistol fell from my hand as Justin dashed to the side of the door. He kept cover and stayed against the wall to avoid the sickle arms that came through the door way, flying around in an attempt to impale anything alive. Frantically I looked at Justin hoping he had some idea to get us out of the situation we were in as the creature made an earsplitting shriek that caused me to go temporarily deaf.
Opening my mouth I spoke to Justin, not being able to hear myself. After a moment I'd try again, slowly hearing the words grow louder.
"Do you have any more of those things you tossed outside the door before you closed it?" I asked hopefully, not even knowing if it would do the trick.
Looking at me he shook his head, turning it just in time as part of the creatures arm passed mere inches from his turned cheek.
"You mean a Violight Grenade? I'm afraid not." He said loading another clip into his rifle.
Cocking it again then turning towards the damaged door he'd proceed to empty more rounds into the nightmare at point blank range. When his mask lights turned away from me it would leave me in darkness.
Turning I looked for my pistol that I'd lost. I saw the dim glow of its barrel lying in a corner of the room and crawled towards it, listening to the shrieks and wails mixed with gunfire.
Reaching for my weapon it suddenly disappeared into the darkness. The strip of light emitting from the pistol had seemed to evaporate. Reaching forward I placed my hand where it had been, but nothing was there. Frowning I stood up and turned towards Justin and the noise of battle. When a gloved hand moved over my mouth and an arm held me in place.
