Summary

ENGLISH DESCRIPTION

“One of the most passionate love stories of 20th century Mexico”.  —Elena Poniatowska.

In August 2001, almost miraculously, the manuscript that makes up this fascinating autobiography was discovered in a Mexico City apartment; it had been missing since November 1966, when its author, Alma M. Reed, died.

A passionate story hidden for over fifty years in which Alma narrates her first visits to Mexico as a special envoy for The New York Times Sunday Magazine to accompany the Carnegie Institute expedition. It was in Mexico where she first crossed paths with Felipe Carrillo Puerto, the then governor of Yucatán and who was considered by many the Abraham Lincoln of Mexico. From their first meeting they connected in an intense love story, whose magic and pain are clearly reconstructed in Peregrina.
