Author Biography

Kay Lawson is professor emerita of political science at San Francisco State University, San Francisco, CA. She was visiting professor at the University of Paris, Sorbonne, 1992-2000, and coeditor of the International Political Science Review 2000-2009. She is general editor of two series, Political Parties in Context and Perspectives in Comparative Politics, and the author of numerous books and articles on political parties. Saad Eddin Ibrahim is professor of sociology at the American University in Cairo, Egypt, founding chairman of the Ibn Khaldun Center for Development Studies, and founder of the Arab Organization for Human Rights. He is widely known for his work on electoral fraud in Egyptian elections, work that led to his arrest and conviction and a global outpouring of support from scholars, human rights organizations, and political leaders. Recently convicted a third time, he is now working in exile. During 2008-2009, he was professor of political sociology at Indiana University and the Shawwaf Chair Professor at the Center of Middle East Studies at Harvard University.
