Summary

This book analyzes two of the most complex and enigmatic phenomena to emerge in Latin America in recent decades: the extremely violent Shining Path guerrilla movement, and the decade-long regime of political outsider turned dictator, Alberto Fujimori. The book describes the context in which these two authoritarian political projects flourished and their effects on Peruvian civil society and contemporary Peruvian democracy.
