Summary

Tremendous advances in intracardiac echocardiography (ICE) have coincided with the evolution of interventional electrophysiology.

This book is designed to provide both the electrophysiologist and echocardiographer with an in-depth view of the role and value of ICE during electrophysiologic procedures. A guide to techniques used for optimal ICE imaging in cardiac electrophysiology is provided. In addition, new and less-recognized uses of ICE in electrophysiological procedures are described and their clinical applications are presented.

Illustrated with over 500 images, many of which are in color, the book can also be used as a practical atlas. Readers need not be experts in the field of echocardiography to benefit from this practical approach to intracardiac imaging in electrophysiology.

Author Biography

Dr. Jian-Fang Ren is a Senior Research Investigator in the experimental and clinical electrophysiology laboratories at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. He has been a pioneer in using intracardiac ultrasound imaging for electrophysiologic applications. He has authored or co-authored over one hundred original manuscripts including seminal publications related to the use of intracardiac ultrasound imaging technology and catheter ablation of inappropriate sinus tachycardia and atrial fibrillation. He has mentored over fifty trainees on the use of intracardiac echo and has lectured internationally on the subject matter.

Dr. Francis Marchlinski is a Professor of Medicine and Director of Electrophysiology for the University of Pennsylvania Health System. He has been actively involved in cardiac Electrophysiology investigation and training for over twenty-five years. He has authored numerous articles on the utility of a variety of imaging techniques for facilitating electrophysiologic mapping and ablation.

Dr. David Callans is a Professor of Medicine and Director of the Cardiac Electrophysiology Laboratory at the Hospital of University of Pennsylvania. He has been a pioneer in the use of intracardiac echocardiography in cardiac electrophysiology. He has authored a number of original publications and reviews, lectured and has organized training sessions for electrophysiologists on the use of intracardiac echo.

Dr. David Schwartzman is a Associate Professor of Medicine and Director of the Atrial Fibrillation Center at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. He has been actively involved in the development of intracardiac echo imaging in cardiac electrophysiology and has continued to published original manuscripts and well-respected, state-of-the-art reviews on the subject.
